Understanding the Health IT-enabled Performance Improvement for Older Americans

 Summary:

The goal of this nationwide project is to understand how health information technologies and health information exchange translates into better care for older adults, specifically the Medicare population. Using a mixed methods approach, we plan on identifying provider organizations that have succeeded in improving quality and cost outcomes after EHR adoption and then interviewing them to understand what factors and mechanisms helped them to use HIT to improve quality and cost of their care delivery. Insight from this project would help providers and policy makers to understand how best to use information technology to drive improvements in the quality and efficiency of care for older Americans.
